What is

It's not where you share the ownership with someone you don't know and it's not where you own the upstairs and someone else owns downstairs.

It is about 40 years old and it is a Government Affordable Housing scheme – It is super brilliant! Usually, it's a Housing Association selling the property. You buy the share you can afford and pay rent on the remainder.

Over time, you can buy more shares, this is known as staircasing. Doing this means the rent goes down and your share size goes up.

Its your home, nobody can sell it, unless you decide to.

who areMetro

We're a little bit obsessed… with Shared Ownership

We've been around since 1996, won a couple of awards for services to First Time Buyers, pretty decent Trust pilot reviews. And we're lucky enough to be trusted by 90ish Housing Associations so we can focus our time and energy on Shared Ownership buyers.

Because we play by the book we want to tell you that…

Your home may be repossessed if you do not keep up repayments on your mortgage. There may be a fee for mortgage advice of up to 1% of the amount borrowed. A typical fee is £499, but this will depend upon your circumstances.

Shared ownership

Most of the main high street lenders offer Shared Ownership mortgages and lots of Building Societies do to. In total there are around 28 Shared Ownership lenders

Mortgage products work in the same way other mortgages do, the more deposit you put in, the better the interest rate.

Just make sure you get some good advice!
